MAPPA's adaptation premiered on October 3, 2020 and ran for two cours without a break. Episodes 1 to 13 cover Yuji swallowing Sukuna's finger, the Fearsome Womb mission and the first Mahito arc with Nanami and Junpei. Episodes 14 to 21 are the Kyoto Goodwill Event, which is where Yuji and Todo's Black Flash scene lives. The last three episodes adapt the Origin of Obedience arc, with Megumi at the Yasohachi Bridge and Yuji and Nobara against the Death Painting brothers. Season 1 is the best place to meet the main cast; our Season 1 characters guide covers who's who.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0: when did the movie come out?

The prequel film opened in Japan on December 24, 2021 and reached US cinemas on March 18, 2022. It adapts Gege Akutami's original one-volume prequel and follows Yuta Okkotsu, a boy haunted by the curse of his childhood friend Rika. You can watch it before or after Season 1, though it lands harder after. The second-years Maki, Inumaki and Panda make much more sense once you've seen it. Character rundown: JJK 0 characters and our Yuta Okkotsu profile.
Season 2 (2023): 23 episodes
Season 2 started on July 6, 2023 with a five-episode flashback (episodes 25 to 29) covering Gojo and Geto's student days, known as Hidden Inventory / Premature Death. This is Toji Fushiguro's big debut, if that's what brought you here; see when Toji appears. Episodes 30 to 47 then adapt the Shibuya Incident, the arc a lot of fans consider the best stretch of the series. The season finished on December 28, 2023. Who appears: Season 2 characters.
Season 3 (2026): 12 episodes
After a two-year gap, Season 3, titled The Culling Game Part 1, aired from January 8 to March 26, 2026. It picks up straight after Shibuya and runs through the Sendai Colony fights. If you're catching up on new faces, the JJK characters in Season 3 page and our Culling Game characters list are the quickest way in.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 release date: latest news
Season 4, called The Culling Game Part 2, was announced on March 26, 2026, the day Season 3 ended. On June 19, 2026, MAPPA's 15th anniversary lineup stream showed a teaser saying the season is in production, without a release window. The same stream named Takeru Sato, the assistant director on Season 3, as the new director.
Some outlets are reporting a 2027 premiere, but we haven't seen an official date from MAPPA or Shueisha, so treat that as unconfirmed. The next big chance for news is Jump Festa 2027, held December 19 and 20, 2026 at Makuhari Messe, where Jujutsu Kaisen has a Super Stage slot. We'll update this page when a date is announced.
The manga: 2018 to 2024
Gege Akutami's manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from March 2018 to September 30, 2024 and is collected in 30 volumes. The last two volumes, 29 and 30, came out together in Japan on December 25, 2024. In English, VIZ Media publishes it in print and digitally, and the Shonen Jump app carries it too. Anime-only fans should know that the anime is only part of the way through the story; Season 4 will still leave the final Shinjuku arc to adapt.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo release dates
Modulo is a short sequel written by Akutami and drawn by Yuji Iwasaki, the artist of Cipher Academy. It ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from September 8, 2025 to March 9, 2026 and ended with Chapter 25. The three volumes came out in Japan on January 5, March 4 and May 1, 2026. It's set in 2086, 68 years after the Culling Game, and follows the siblings Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu after an alien people called the Simurians arrive on Earth. There's no Modulo anime announced. Meet the cast in our JJK Modulo characters guide.
Where to watch Jujutsu Kaisen
In the US, Crunchyroll streams all three TV seasons and Jujutsu Kaisen 0, with subtitles and an English dub. For the manga, VIZ and the Shonen Jump app are the official routes. If you just want to know who everyone is before you start, our full JJK characters list and main characters page are spoiler-light.

What order should you watch Jujutsu Kaisen in?
Release order works perfectly well: Season 1, then the movie, then Seasons 2 and 3. Chronologically, Hidden Inventory (Season 2, episodes 25 to 29) comes first, then JJK 0, then Season 1, but we don't recommend starting with a flashback. Watch it the way it came out.
