Top 5 strongest JJK characters
If you only want the short list: Sukuna, Gojo, Yuta Okkotsu, Kenjaku and Yuki Tsukumo. We rank by peak strength shown in the completed manga, not by who has the best aura or the coolest domain. Further down you'll find the JJK strongest characters ranked from one to fifteen, so the top ten and the five after it are both covered.
⚠ The reasoning below uses events from the end of the manga. Turn on "Spoilers" in the header to read it.
1. Ryomen Sukuna
This one's easy. Sukuna beats Gojo in their Shinjuku fight, which ends in Chapter 236. It took a fully restored Sukuna working with Mahoraga's adaptation and a new cut aimed at the world itself. After that he holds off the entire remaining roster of sorcerers for several chapters straight. Nobody in the series wins a straight one-on-one against him.
2. Satoru Gojo
Gojo loses, so he can't be first, but it isn't close for second. He's the only character who pushes Sukuna to the edge, and he does it alone. He burns out his brain and fixes it with Reverse Cursed Technique several times during that fight. In the main story before that, nothing touches him. Infinity is the reason Kenjaku's whole plan starts with sealing him rather than fighting him.
3. Yuta Okkotsu
We expect the most pushback on this pick. Yuta's case is breadth. Copy means he can borrow techniques through Rika, he has huge cursed energy reserves and Reverse Cursed Technique, and he settles the Sendai Colony deadlock almost on his own. He's also the one who finishes Kenjaku in Chapter 243, though Takaba's distraction does a lot of the work there, and we think that's worth saying out loud.
4. Kenjaku
A thousand years of experience and a pile of stolen techniques. He kills Yuki and fights off Choso at the same time. He uses Antigravity System from Yuji's mother's body and has an open domain. He loses to an ambush rather than in a straight fight, so we put him just below Yuta.
5. Yuki Tsukumo
Star Rage has no upper limit on the mass it adds. Her last move against Kenjaku turns her into a black hole, and he only survives because Tengen's barriers contain the blast. That's enough for the top five. Her problem is that we see so little of her actually fighting.

6. Yorozu. Her Construction (the same technique as Mai's, without the crippling cost) and Perfect Sphere give her a genuine win condition against Sukuna, even if she doesn't pull it off. She's ranked this high almost entirely on one fight.
7. Hajime Kashimo. A 400-year-old reincarnated sorcerer whose cursed energy behaves like electricity. He enters the Culling Game for one reason: to fight Sukuna. His Mythical Beast Amber is a one-time-only release, and it's the reason he's in the conversation.
8. Maki Zenin. After Chapter 149 she's in Toji's league physically, and she clears the Zenin clan's elite Hei squad in Season 3's adaptation. Later she fights Sukuna at close range in the final arc and he admits she's earned respect. That's rare from him.
9. Yuji Itadori. End-of-series Yuji has Blood Manipulation, Shrine, Reverse Cursed Technique and a Domain Expansion of his own. On paper, maybe higher. We keep him at nine because the Sukuna finish took the whole team.
10. Kinji Hakari. Idle Death Gamble makes him nearly impossible to kill while he's on a jackpot. That's absurd in a war of attrition and less useful against a one-shot.
11. Toji Fushiguro. No cursed energy at all and he still beats a teenage Gojo in Season 2. He's lower than people expect because adult Gojo is a completely different problem.
12. Mahito. His soul-touching technique ignores normal defence. He's the villain who makes Shibuya so bleak. Sukuna and Yuji are the only ones who reliably hurt his soul, though.
13. Suguru Geto. A special grade who controls thousands of curses, and the main villain of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. He loses to Yuta at the end of the Night Parade, which caps his ranking.
14. Choso. Blood Manipulation with none of the usual blood-loss limits. He's a strong fighter who keeps running into people stronger than him, Yuji in Shibuya first among them.
15. Aoi Todo. Boogie Woogie is a simple technique that Todo turns into a genuinely nasty one, and he's the best fight IQ on the Kyoto side.
JJK strongest characters tier list
| Tier | Characters | Why |
|---|---|---|
| S | Sukuna, Gojo | Only these two fight each other on even terms |
| A | Yuta, Kenjaku, Yuki, Yorozu, Kashimo | Special grade level, each with a believable win condition against almost anyone |
| B | Maki, Yuji (late), Hakari, Toji, Mahito, Geto | Can beat most of the cast, with clear weaknesses |
| C | Choso, Todo, Naobito, Jogo, Hanami, Dagon, Nanami | Dangerous Grade 1 / special grade curse level |
Some people rank Fumihiko Takaba near the top, since his technique, Comedian, makes whatever he finds funny real. We leave him off on purpose. It only works when he believes his own joke, and that makes him impossible to slot into a normal power ranking.
Best, most popular and most hated JJK characters
Strongest and best aren't the same list. In fan polls Gojo is the usual winner, and Yuji, Megumi, Nanami and Inumaki show up near the top over and over. If you're asking who the best JJK characters are as characters, our answer is Nanami and Geto. Both get a complete arc in a small amount of screen time.
The most hated JJK characters are easier to call: Mahito, for what he does to Junpei, Nanami and Nobara, and Naoya Zenin, who is written to be loathed and lands it.
How we ranked the most powerful JJK characters
Three rules. First, peak form only: Yuji at the end of the manga, not Yuji in episode 1. Second, demonstrated feats beat hype. Characters get credit for what they actually do on the page, not for what other characters say about them. That's the reason Takaba and some one-chapter players aren't ranked. Third, a team win counts less than a solo one. Plenty of the biggest moments in the final arc are group efforts, and we try not to hand the whole result to whoever lands the last hit.
We also ignore matchup-only wins when they obviously wouldn't transfer. Hakari is a nightmare in a long fight and much less scary against someone who can kill him in one blow before the jackpot hits. That's why he's tenth and not sixth.
Strongest JJK characters by category
Strongest student: Yuta Okkotsu. He's a second-year and already a special grade. Late-manga Yuji is the only student argument against him.
Strongest curse: Sukuna, though he's technically a human sorcerer turned cursed object rather than a natural curse. If you mean curses born from human fear, Mahito at his Shibuya peak, with Jogo just behind him.
Strongest without cursed energy: Toji Fushiguro, with Maki's later form right alongside him. The series compares them directly, and Ogi Zenin sees Toji in Maki in Chapter 149.
Strongest Kyoto character: Aoi Todo. Nobody else from Kyoto comes close in the main story.
Strongest in the anime so far: Gojo, easily. Sukuna has only ever fought at a fraction of his power on screen. If you're anime-only, keep that in mind before arguing about our top two.
Where other strongest-JJK lists go wrong
The most common thing we disagree with is putting Toji in the top five. He's an incredible fighter, and beating teenage Gojo in Season 2 is a real feat. But he beat a Gojo who didn't have Reverse Cursed Technique yet, and the Gojo he creates by nearly killing him is a different animal. Toji himself more or less admits as much before he dies.
The second is ranking Megumi high on potential. Sukuna clearly thinks Megumi could be something special, and the Ten Shadows is a frightening technique on paper. But the most dangerous thing Megumi ever does with it is summon something he can't control. Potential isn't a feat.
The third is leaving Yuki out because she has so few fights. We get why. We just think a character who can turn herself into a black hole has earned a place, even with a short highlight reel.
Disagree with the order? Good. That's half the fun of this series. The tier list above is the part we're most confident in. The exact order inside each tier is where reasonable fans will argue.
