How many JJK characters are there?
There are well over a hundred named characters in Jujutsu Kaisen once you count the students, teachers, curse users, cursed spirits, shikigami and the Culling Game players. Our database tracks 153 of them right now, which is more than the roughly 145 pages in Fandom's character category. That includes the Culling Game players, the Zenin clan's Hei, the Hidden Inventory side cast and the new faces from Modulo. We only add a character once we've checked the basics.
If you only need the short version: the story follows Yuji Itadori, a first-year at Tokyo Jujutsu High who ends up carrying Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, inside his body. His classmates are Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki, and their teacher is Satoru Gojo. Almost everyone else on this page orbits those five.
The main JJK characters
Jujutsu Kaisen main characters
Yuji Itadori is the reason the plot moves at all. In Chapter 1 he eats one of Sukuna's twenty fingers to stop a curse from killing his senpai at the Occult Club, which is a terrible idea that happens to save everyone in the room. He's absurdly strong even before he learns jujutsu (the gym-class shot put scene is the series telling you that early) and he spends most of the story trying to live up to his grandfather's last request: help people, and don't die alone.
Megumi Fushiguro is the quiet one, but he's also the character the plot keeps circling back to. His Ten Shadows technique lets him summon shikigami through hand-shadow signs, and Sukuna takes an uncomfortable interest in him from the Fearsome Womb arc onward. Megumi says outright that he saves people selectively. It's a real contrast with Yuji.
Nobara Kugisaki fights with a hammer, nails and a straw doll, and she has zero interest in being anyone's support character. Her Resonance technique hurts her as much as the enemy, and she uses it anyway. Watch her fight Eso and Kechizu with Yuji in Season 1; it's one of the best tag-team fights in the show.
Satoru Gojo is the teacher, the strongest sorcerer alive, and the reason the jujutsu higher-ups can't simply execute Yuji. Infinity means attacks never actually reach him, and his Domain Expansion, Unlimited Void, ends most fights the moment it opens. Season 2's flashback to his student days with Suguru Geto is the part that turns him from a cool character into a sad one.
Ryomen Sukuna talks out of Yuji's cheek in the early episodes, which is about as unsettling as it sounds. He was a human sorcerer in the Heian era. Nobody in that period could stop him, so after his death his fingers were kept as cursed objects that couldn't be destroyed. Of all the JJK characters on this list, he's the one everyone else ends up measured against.
Other JJK characters you'll hear about constantly
Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki and Panda are the second-years, and the anime introduces them in Season 1 before Jujutsu Kaisen 0 explains how they met Yuta. Inumaki speaks almost only in rice ball ingredients ("salmon", "bonito flakes"), because his Cursed Speech turns ordinary words into commands. Panda really is a talking panda, technically a cursed corpse built by Principal Yaga.
Kento Nanami is the adult most fans would follow into a fire. He calls jujutsu work "shit" without hesitation and still does it properly. Aoi Todo spends his first scene asking Megumi what type of woman he likes, and the answer decides whether Todo beats him up. Choso starts as a Death Painting brother out for revenge and ends up as the most devoted big brother in the series, even though Yuji never asked for one.
On the villain side, Suguru Geto and the stitched-forehead version of him that turns out to be Kenjaku are the long-running threats. Mahito is the cruellest of the cursed spirits. Toji Fushiguro only gets a short arc in Season 2, but it's the one where a man with zero cursed energy cuts down a teenage Gojo, and fans haven't stopped talking about it.

Character lists & guides
JJK characters by affiliation
Tokyo Jujutsu High
The main school. Yuji, Megumi and Nobara are the first-years. Maki Zenin, Toge Inumaki and Panda are the second-years, and Yuta Okkotsu is technically in their class too, although he's overseas for most of the early story. The suspended third-years are Kinji Hakari and Kirara Hoshi, and the plot only goes looking for them during the Culling Game. Staff include Gojo, Principal Masamichi Yaga, the doctor Shoko Ieiri and assistant manager Kiyotaka Ijichi, who mostly drives people to places where they nearly die.
Kyoto Jujutsu High
The sister school, introduced properly in the Goodwill Event arc of Season 1. Aoi Todo steals every scene he's in. Noritoshi Kamo, Momo Nishimiya, Mai Zenin, Kasumi Miwa and Mechamaru round out the students, with Utahime Iori as their teacher and Yoshinobu Gakuganji as principal. Gakuganji makes no secret of wanting Yuji dead, and that tension sits under the whole event.
Jujutsu sorcerers outside the schools
Working sorcerers like Kento Nanami, Mei Mei, Takuma Ino and the special grade Yuki Tsukumo. Nanami is the one most fans bring up first. He went from salaryman back to sorcerer, refuses to work overtime, and mentors Yuji through the Mahito and Junpei storyline.
The Zenin clan
One of the big three sorcerer families. It's also the most openly rotten one. Naobito, Naoya and Ogi Zenin all show up properly by Season 3, and the way the clan treats Maki and Mai sets up the Perfect Preparation episodes.
Curse users and cursed spirits
The villains split into humans who use jujutsu for their own ends (Suguru Geto and his followers, Kenjaku, Uraume, Toji Fushiguro as a hired killer) and actual curses. Mahito, Jogo, Hanami and Dagon are the special grade curses working together in Seasons 1 and 2. Choso and his brothers, the Death Paintings, are something in between: half-human, half-curse.
Culling Game players
Kenjaku's battle royale fills the cast with new faces fast. Some are ordinary people who woke up with techniques, like Hiromi Higuruma, a defense attorney. Others are reincarnated sorcerers from centuries ago, like Takako Uro and Ryu Ishigori. Season 3 introduces the first wave of them.
Modulo
The short sequel manga, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is set decades later and adds a new generation, including Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, along with alien visitors called Simurians. It's a small cast and we've kept those entries brief until we've written them up properly.
New JJK characters in Season 3 and Modulo
Season 3, The Culling Game Part 1, ran for 12 episodes between January 8 and March 26, 2026. Its biggest additions are Higuruma, the reincarnated sorcerer Reggie Star, Hana Kurusu (who carries the sorcerer known as Angel), and the Sendai Colony group the final episode is built around: Uro, Ishigori, Kurourushi and Dhruv Lakdawalla. Naoya Zenin also gets far more screen time than he did in Season 2. If you're searching for "new JJK characters" after the anime, that Season 3 page is the place to start. If you're asking about the manga, the newest characters come from Modulo.
Female, strongest and villain JJK characters
Female characters: JJK gets a lot of credit for this. Nobara and Maki aren't decoration, and neither are Yuki Tsukumo, Mei Mei or Utahime. Our JJK female characters list covers all of them, plus quieter characters like Tsumiki Fushiguro and Riko Amanai.
Strongest characters: Sukuna and Gojo are the top two in almost every ranking, and so far as the manga goes, the order between them isn't really up for debate. Below them is where the arguments start. See our strongest JJK characters ranked for our reasoning.
Villains: Sukuna, Kenjaku and Mahito do most of the damage, but the villain list runs much deeper than that. Browse the JJK characters villains page.
Grades, cursed techniques and domains
You'll see a "grade" next to most characters in our table. Sorcerers and curses are both ranked, from Grade 4 at the bottom up through Grade 3, Grade 2, Grade 1 and Special Grade. There are also "semi" versions between some of these. A grade isn't a perfect power level. Maki was officially Grade 4 for a long time purely because the Zenin clan blocked her promotion, and the series makes a point of that.
A cursed technique is the ability a sorcerer is born with, carved into their body, like Gojo's Limitless or Nobara's Straw Doll. Characters without one, such as Yuji at the start, fight with raw cursed energy. A Domain Expansion is the top-tier move: the user builds a barrier around the opponent, their technique is guaranteed to hit inside it, and once it's open the fight is basically decided. It costs huge amounts of cursed energy, which is why not everyone can do it. Black Flash is a separate thing: a hit where cursed energy lands within a millionth of a second of the physical impact. It can't be done on purpose. Yuji lands four in a row against Hanami in Season 1, which is the scene that first makes him look like a real sorcerer.
JJK anime characters vs manga characters
If you only watch the anime, a good chunk of this list hasn't happened to you yet. The anime has adapted the manga through the Sendai Colony (Season 3, early 2026). The manga, which ended in September 2024, keeps going for well over a hundred more chapters. That's why some entries carry a "Manga only (later arcs)" debut tag: characters like Yorozu, Miyo Rokujushi and Hagane Daido haven't had an anime appearance worth the name.
Going the other way, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is its own thing. It started as a short prequel series Akutami serialized before the main manga, and the 2021 film adapts it. Yuta, Rika, Geto's followers (Miguel, Larue, the Hasaba twins) and the younger versions of Maki, Inumaki and Panda all debut there. If a character's debut reads "JJK 0", that's what it means.
The anime also adds a little. MAPPA stretches some fights and gives background characters a few extra seconds, but there are no major anime-original characters. Every name in our database comes from Akutami's manga.
How we write and update these character entries
Each entry is written by us from the anime and manga, not copied from a wiki. Where the series doesn't give a clear answer, like an exact grade or a height that's only floating around fan sites, we say "not stated" instead of guessing. A few late Culling Game players are marked "Unknown" for the same reason.
Spoilers are the other thing we've thought about. Statuses (alive, deceased and so on) are blurred until you switch on the spoiler toggle in the header, and the late-manga parts of the character profiles sit inside spoiler boxes. Anime-only viewers can browse the grid and table without the Culling Game or Shinjuku endings being ruined. If you've read the manga, flip the switch and everything opens up.
We update the list when new characters get proper screen time or when we finish a write-up. The next big batch will come with Season 4. If you spot something wrong, the contact page is the fastest way to tell us.
JJK characters names list
All JJK characters names in our database, alphabetically. If you want the same names sorted by school, clan and side instead, the list of JJK characters by affiliation does that. Shikigami are left out of this one; you will find them in the table. Names use the common English order, given name first, the way the Crunchyroll subtitles and the VIZ manga print them.
