Toji Fushiguro is one of the most popular characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, which is impressive given how little he's actually in it. If you've just finished Season 1 and are wondering where Megumi's dad is, the answer is: he makes his real debut in Season 2, in the five-episode Hidden Inventory / Premature Death arc (episodes 25 to 29). Below is exactly where to find him, plus a spoiler-boxed section on his return.

Is Toji in Season 1?

Not on screen. Season 1 mentions Megumi's family situation and the Zenin clan, but Toji himself doesn't appear. If you've seen him in clips and assumed you missed him, you didn't.

Toji in Season 2: Hidden Inventory

Season 2 opens with a flashback to 2006, when Gojo and Geto are second-year students. They're assigned to protect Riko Amanai, the Star Plasma Vessel, and Toji is the hired killer working against them. He's a former Zenin who was born with no cursed energy at all, a Heavenly Restriction that gave him a body far beyond any normal human's in exchange.

Which episodes is Toji in?

Episodes 25 and 26. The setup. A bounty on Riko's life brings curse users after her, and Gojo goes days without sleep or dropping Infinity. Toji set that bounty himself, and he's waiting for the deadline.

Episode 27 (Hidden Inventory, Part 3). The big one. Once the bounty expires and Gojo finally relaxes, Toji stabs him from behind. He then shoots Riko in front of Geto.

Episode 28 (Hidden Inventory, Part 4). Toji beats Geto, then meets a Gojo who has just mastered Reverse Cursed Technique. Gojo uses Red and Hollow Purple, and Toji dies. With his last words, he tells Gojo that his son will be sold to the Zenin clan.

If you only have time for one, watch Episode 28. It's the fight people mean when they talk about Toji, and it turns Gojo into the character you meet in Season 1.

Toji's weapons and fighting style

Because he has no cursed energy, Toji relies on cursed tools and his body. He carries them inside a worm-like cursed spirit that he keeps wrapped around himself. The most famous is the Inverted Spear of Heaven, which cancels any cursed technique it touches. He also uses Playful Cloud, a three-section staff, and a chain that lets him throw the spear at range. The full rundown is on our Toji Fushiguro profile.

Does Toji come back after Season 2's flashback?

Yes, later in the same season, during the Shibuya Incident. The details are a spoiler:

⚠ Shibuya spoilers. Enable "Spoilers" up top.

In Episode 35, an elderly curse user called Granny Ogami uses her Séance technique to bring Toji's physicality back in her grandson's body. It goes wrong. Toji's body takes over and starts fighting purely on instinct, going after the strongest opponents around. He eventually ends up fighting Megumi without recognising him. In Chapter 113 of the manga, he asks the boy his name, hears "Fushiguro", says "Not Zenin, huh? Good for you", and ends his own life.

Why Toji matters more than his screen time suggests

Toji is on screen for roughly two episodes of the flashback plus a stretch of Shibuya, yet the whole series bends around him. Nearly killing Gojo is what forces Gojo to master Reverse Cursed Technique and become "the strongest". Failing to protect Riko is one of the first cracks in Geto's faith in non-sorcerers. And Toji's final words are the reason Gojo goes looking for a young Megumi, which is how Megumi ends up at Jujutsu High at all.

That's a lot of plot for a man who barely talks. It's also why fans who meet Toji in Season 2 often rewatch Season 1 straight afterwards. Gojo's confidence and Megumi's guardedness both read differently once you know where they came from.

Toji and Maki

Toji isn't the only Zenin born with this kind of Heavenly Restriction. His relative Maki Zenin has a similar one, and the clan treats her with the same contempt it showed him. The manga leans on that comparison more and more as Maki's story develops, so if Toji's your favourite, keep an eye on her.

Who voices Toji?

Takehito Koyasu voices Toji in Japanese. His calm, lazy delivery is a big part of why the character works. Other casting is on our voice actors page.

Where to watch Toji's episodes

All of Season 2 is on Crunchyroll in the US. You can technically watch Hidden Inventory without Season 1, but you'll get much more out of it if you know adult Gojo first.
