Who is Suguru Geto?

Suguru Geto was Satoru Gojo's best friend at Tokyo Jujutsu High, one of four special grade sorcerers of his time, and later the villain of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. If you're searching "geto jjk", there's a catch: the Geto you see in Season 1 and Shibuya, with stitches across his forehead, isn't really him. This page covers the real Suguru Geto.

Personality

Teenage Geto, the one in Season 2's Hidden Inventory, is calm, polite and thoughtful. He's the one who reminds Gojo that sorcerers exist to protect people who can't protect themselves. He believes in it.

The adult Geto of JJK 0 has turned that belief inside out. He's still charming and soft-spoken, but now he calls non-sorcerers "monkeys" and wants a world where only sorcerers exist. What's chilling is how gentle he stays about it. He never shouts. He's simply decided.

Appearance

Long black hair, usually in a half bun with a long fringe on one side, narrow eyes and stretched earlobes. As a student he wears the Tokyo uniform. In JJK 0 he wears monk-like robes.

How Geto became a villain

Hidden Inventory is the story of how Geto breaks, and it happens in stages. On the Riko Amanai mission, Riko is killed and a cult of non-sorcerers applauds her death. Afterwards, he's sent on mission after mission swallowing curses born from ordinary people's negativity. Then his junior Yu Haibara is killed on a mission. Finally, on a job in a rural village, he finds two little girls, Mimiko and Nanako, locked in a cage and abused by villagers who think they're responsible for strange incidents. He kills the villagers, takes the girls with him and leaves jujutsu society.

His last conversation with Gojo as a friend happens on a street in Shinjuku. Gojo could kill him there and doesn't.

Cursed technique: Cursed Spirit Manipulation

Geto can absorb cursed spirits he's beaten by swallowing them in the form of a dark ball, then summon and control them as weapons. He describes the taste as like a rag used to wipe up vomit, and swallowing them is something he does constantly. At his peak he controls thousands of curses, including some special grade ones. His strongest move, Maximum: Uzumaki, compresses many of his curses into a single blast.

He's also a strong hand-to-hand fighter, which Yuta finds out the hard way in their final fight.

Geto's arc in JJK 0

Geto targets Yuta because he wants Rika, a special grade curse, for his collection. He declares a Night Parade of a Hundred Demons on December 24, 2017, sending a thousand curses into Shinjuku and Kyoto while he heads for Jujutsu High himself.

Yuta beats him with Rika fully released. Geto, missing an arm, staggers into an alley where Gojo finds him. Geto asks Gojo to curse him at least a little at the end. Gojo's reply isn't shown. Geto dies there.

His body is then taken over by Kenjaku, who uses it, and his technique, through Season 1 and the Shibuya Incident. In Chapter 91, after Gojo is sealed, Geto's hand moves on its own and grabs Kenjaku's throat, suggesting some part of him resents what's being done.

Geto and Gojo

Gojo and Geto are the strongest pair of students anyone at Jujutsu High has seen, and in Hidden Inventory they're inseparable: arguing, joking and finishing each other's fights. Geto is the one with principles, Gojo the one with power. When Gojo becomes "the strongest" after Toji, Geto starts to feel left behind, and their missions separate them more and more.

That gap matters. Gojo, alone at the top, doesn't notice how much Geto is struggling until it's too late. Geto, alone with the curses he swallows, stops believing in the people he's protecting. Their final conversation as students is short. Geto tells Gojo that if Gojo can do it, he should kill him. Gojo doesn't. JJK 0 is where Gojo finally has to finish what he couldn't then.

Why Geto is such a good villain

He's understandable. You see every step that gets him there: the cult, the endless curses, Haibara's death, the village. You can follow his logic even while you're horrified by where it leads. And he never stops loving the people close to him. His "family" in JJK 0 is real to him. That makes him far more affecting than villains who are simply cruel, and it's why Hidden Inventory changes how people feel about JJK 0 on a rewatch.

Watching Geto in order

Geto's story makes the most sense if you watch it in chronological order rather than release order.

Start with Hidden Inventory. Season 2's opening arc shows Geto as a student: funny, principled and Gojo's equal. Pay attention to his conversation with Yuki Tsukumo about curses and non-sorcerers, which plants the idea that eventually consumes him.

Then the Premature Death episode. Haibara's death, the village and Geto's choice all come in one bleak run. It's short and doesn't explain itself much, and that's what makes it land.

Then Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Now you see the grown Geto with his followers and his plan for Night Parade of a Hundred Demons. His final scene with Gojo hits completely differently once you know their history.

Then Shibuya. The person walking around in Geto's body is not Geto, and the reveal in the anime is genuinely unsettling the first time through.

Release order works too, of course. Many fans actually like watching JJK 0 first, because Hidden Inventory then plays like a tragedy where you already know the ending.

Relationships

Gojo was his best friend, and the two of them define each other. Shoko was their classmate. Mimiko, Nanako, Miguel and Larue are the "family" he builds after leaving, and they stay loyal to him even after his death. Yuta is the student who stops him.
