Who is Toge Inumaki?
Toge Inumaki is a second-year at Tokyo Jujutsu High and a semi-grade 1 sorcerer whose words are literally commands. To keep from hurting people by accident, he only speaks in rice ball ingredients. It's one of the series' best character ideas, and the "inumaki jjk" fandom has turned "salmon" and "bonito flakes" into a whole language.
Personality
Inumaki is friendly, playful and much more expressive than you'd expect from someone with a vocabulary of about six words. He jokes around with Panda, teases the first-years and is fiercely protective of the people around him. In combat, he's calm and decisive. When he does speak a real command, it's because he's chosen to accept the cost.
Appearance
Pale, almost white hair, purple eyes and a uniform with a tall collar that covers the lower half of his face. Under the collar are the Inumaki clan's snake-eye and fang marks, at the corners of his mouth and on his tongue.
Background
Inumaki comes from the Inumaki clan, a family of Cursed Speech users. Growing up with words that could hurt anyone who heard them, he learned to restrict himself to harmless vocabulary. He's in the same year as Maki, Panda and Yuta, and JJK 0 shows how the group became friends.
Cursed technique: Cursed Speech
Cursed Speech lets Inumaki give orders that anyone hearing must obey: "Don't move", "Blast away", "Get crushed", "Sleep". The stronger the target is compared to him, the more the command costs him, mainly as damage to his throat. Overuse can make him cough blood, and he carries throat medicine for it.
The technique has limits that make it interesting:
- It needs the target to hear him, so earplugs or cursed energy defences can blunt it.
- It can backfire on him if the target is much stronger.
- Simple, short commands are the most reliable. Complicated orders are harder to land.
The rice ball vocabulary
The ingredient words are a code his friends have learned. "Salmon" (shake) is usually agreement. "Bonito flakes" (okaka) is usually "no". "Kelp" (konbu) and "tuna mayo" turn up as greetings or general reactions. The series never gives an official dictionary, which is half the fun. The meaning always comes from context and tone.
Inumaki's key moments
JJK 0: a mission with Yuta in a shopping district is where Yuta learns to understand him, and where Yuta first protects someone instead of hurting them. Inumaki pushes his throat to the limit in that fight.
Season 1: at the Goodwill Event, he uses Cursed Speech to hold back Hanami, buying time for the others at a heavy cost to his throat.

Shibuya: Inumaki is helping civilians when Sukuna fights Mahoraga, and he loses his left hand in the destruction. In Season 3, Yuta tells the higher-ups that Yuji did it, as part of his cover for faking Yuji's execution.
Later: Inumaki helps unseal Gojo in Chapter 221 and is present at the final battle.
Inumaki and Panda
Panda is Inumaki's closest friend, and the two spend half their screen time messing around together, which is apparently why Megumi struggles to take Inumaki fully seriously as a senpai. Their friendship is easygoing and goofy, and it gives the second-years a lot of their charm.
Inumaki and Yuta
JJK 0 starts with Yuta unable to understand a word Inumaki says. By the end of the film, Yuta has learned to read him, trusts him with his life and even borrows his technique through Rika in the final battle. Their mission together in the shopping district is the turning point for Yuta. It's the first time he uses Rika's power to protect someone. That bond carries into the main series, and it adds weight to Yuta's later claim, made as part of a cover story, about who took Inumaki's arm.
How Cursed Speech is used in fights
What makes Cursed Speech interesting is that it's simple to explain and hard to use well. Inumaki has to pick short commands, consider how strong the target is, and judge how much damage his throat can take. Against weak curses he can clear an area with one word. Against something like Hanami, even a short command costs him badly. It's a technique that rewards judgement more than raw power.
Inumaki's best scenes
Inumaki has a small role in the main series, so his good material is spread out. These are the scenes fans come back to.
JJK 0, the shopping district. Inumaki and Yuta are sent on a job together, and the curse is far stronger than expected. Inumaki shields a child, wrecks his throat and trusts Yuta to finish it. It's where their friendship really starts.
JJK 0, the final battle. Inumaki uses Cursed Speech against Geto's curses to buy time, and Yuta later uses Inumaki's technique through Rika. That callback is a big part of why fans love the pair.
Goodwill Event vs Hanami. His best showing in Season 1. Short commands like "Don't move" keep a Special Grade pinned in place while Megumi and Kamo get clear, until his throat gives out and he coughs up blood.
Shibuya. He appears briefly, helping with civilians. What happens to him off-screen there is one of the more painful details of the arc.
Add it all up and he has very little screen time, which makes his popularity even more impressive. Most of it comes from how much he does with a handful of words and a lot of expressive eyebrows above that zipped collar.
Relationships
Panda is his closest friend and effectively his translator. Maki and Yuta are his classmates; Yuta later copies Cursed Speech. He's friendly with the first-years and teases Yuji early on.
